Chainsaw Safety Tips | eReplacementParts.com Operating a chainsaw can be a dangerous task, but these helpful chainsaw safety tips will help you avoid injury, and get the job done right!

Always Have Someone Nearby:
In the event of an injury, it pays to have someone nearby that can assist you. Use a safety flag near your car if you’re working in the woods, and make sure that someone knows where you are, and when you plan to return.

Keep a First-Aid Kit Handy:
A first-aid kit can be crucial in preventing injuries from becoming more serious than they already are. Ensure that your first-aid kit contains blood-clotting bandages.

Wear the Proper Safety Gear:
Most chainsaw-related injuries occur to the hands, fingers, and knees. Work gloves and chaps are helpful in preventing injuries to these vulnerable areas. Other pieces of safety equipment that should be used are:
• A helmet with a face guard
• Ear protection
• Steel-toed boots
• NO loose-fitting clothing

Operate the Chainsaw in a Safe Position:
Keeping your feet firmly planted and holding the chainsaw with two hands are essential steps in proper chainsaw operation. Keep the chainsaw at an angle to avoid kickback during operation. NEVER operate a chainsaw on a ladder or cut anything higher than your shoulder. Also, be sure to work uphill from whatever you’re cutting, if you’re working on a hill.

Use the Correct Chainsaw:
A good rule of thumb is to use a chainsaw with a guide bar that is 2-inches longer than the wood it is cutting.

Be Aware of Your Surroundings:
When felling a tree, always be aware of power lines, vehicles, buildings, and most importantly, people.
