Thousands of 'Yellow Vest' protesters gathered on the streets of Paris on Saturday for the movement's 17th weekend of demonstrations against President Emmanuel Macron's government.
Women were especially vocal, on the day after International Women's Day, as they came equipped with banners and chanting slogans over women's rights issues such as equal pay.
Many protesters were specifically opposed to a planned reform of the unemployment system, which would grant unemployment benefits to self-employed workers and employees who choose to quit their jobs, but take money away from other unemployment benefits.
"We're here because we're nursery assistants. When a child leaves, the unemployment system compensates the loss in our salary. Now, the government wants to change that," said one protester. "At first, they wanted to remove it completely, now they still want to take some of that money from us, and we don't agree with that because we need to live, we need to pay our bills."
The 'Yellow Vest' movement, one of the largest French demonstrations in recent history, has marched every Saturday since November of last year. It started as a protest against a proposed fuel tax, but has since become a wider anti-government movement.
