Life-Affirming Demonstration Held Outside Gov. Andrew Cuomo's Office

Life-Affirming Demonstration Held Outside Gov. Andrew Cuomo's Office Following its annual Legislative Day event on March 19, 2019, New Yorkers for Constitutional Freedoms (NYCF) delivered 20,689 petitions calling for the repeal of the Reproductive Health Act to the office of Gov. Andrew Cuomo. The petitions were collected through individuals and organizations allied with New Yorkers for Life.

Jason J. McGuire, Executive Director of New Yorkers for Constitutional Freedoms (NYCF), made the following remarks: “The Reproductive Health Act (RHA) is an extreme and unnecessary piece of legislation that endangers women and unborn children. The RHA allows non-physicians to perform abortions, took abortion-related crimes off the books in cases where pregnant women miscarry after being assaulted, and repealed existing protections for children born alive following attempted late-term abortions. The RHA is so callous and extreme in its embrace of abortion that it has raised national outrage and galvanized the pro-life movement in the Empire State and across America.”

McGuire continued, “Christian New Yorkers are grieved at the passage of the RHA and outraged that Gov. Cuomo lit One World Trade Center and other landmarks in pink to celebrate this inhumane law. Today, we will prayerfully and peacefully gather outside Gov. Cuomo’s office to deliver petitions calling for the repeal of the RHA. We ask that all New Yorkers who share our beliefs about human life speak out in opposition to the RHA, and we call on supporters of the RHA to re-examine their consciences. As abortion survivor Gianna Jessen—a featured speaker at our 2019 Legislative Day—once said, ‘If abortion is about women’s rights, then what were mine?’”

“As recent polling indicates, a shift is occurring. America does not endorse the Governor’s late-term abortion extremism. One day New York will be a pro-life state. From that vantage point, we will look back and see Cuomo’s cruel political posturing as a contemptible injustice and a hinge upon which the nation swung toward life,” concluded McGuire.

Several hundred people participated in delivering the petitions. The sound of hymns filled the Senate Staircase in the Capitol as New York Christians worshiped the Lord with song after song outside Gov. Cuomo’s office, and later prayed for the Governor and members of the State Legislature.
