POLYPROPYLENE (PP) CFR FAR EAST ASIA - PRICING SCENARIO: FORECAST UNTIL MAY 2019

Let’s look at the Pricing Scenario for Polypropylene (PP) CFR Far East Asia from the start of last month, i.e. FEB until May 2019:
As had been predicted, during the First week of February, polypropylene prices gained in Asia. Prices climbed as lower priced import offers were unavailable from overseas suppliers in the region. Higher upstream crude and naphtha rates also supported the price rise. CFR Far East Asia prices remained flat during the second week of February.

Despite higher upstream costs and gains recorded in PP futures on the Dalian Commodity Exchange in China, prices of PP witnessed a fall in the Far East Asian regions during third week of February. During the fourth week, PP prices edged higher.

The price rise was mainly on account of a lift in buying sentiments coupled with deals concluded at higher price levels in the region.
As the viewer can see, our forecasted PP CFR Far East Asia price for Week 1 of March of all grades fell within the actual price range as assessed by Polymerupdate's price discovery team today, Wednesday.
1. Our forecasted values for PP Injection/Raffia were between USD 1050-1090/mt, while the actual prices were assessed at USD 1070/mt.

2. Forecasted values for PP Film were between USD 1080-1120/mt, while the actual price was USD 1090/mt.

3. Polymerupdate forecasted the values of BOPP in the range of USD 1080-1120/mt, while the actual price was USD 1090/mt.

4. Forecasted values for PP Block Copolymer were USD 1095-1135/mt, while the actual assessed price was at USD 1120/mt.

Forecasted prices for April & May, done with the use of Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning, indicate that PP prices are likely to remain firm on the back of stronger upstream costs on the one hand while on the other, limited regional product availability.
