Covão dos Conchos is an engineering marvel. The Conchos is located on the Serra de Estrela mountains of Portugal. Constructed in 1955, the Covão dos Conchos is a part of a hydroelectric dam. Though it has plant life growing inside, it is made of concrete and granite. The hydroelectric system has a height of 4.6 metres and a circumference of 48 metres. The depth of the tunnel is 1519 metres long. It serves to collect water from Ribeira das Naves and funnels it to Lagoa Comprida.
