Dinesh Prasad said in his complaint that he had bought shoes from Bata Store located in Sector 22D. The store also took money from them for a paper bag with shoes. Dinesh said in the complaint that Bata is also taking money for the bag and is also doing its publicity for free.
In the complaint, Dinesh had talked of getting 3 rupees back. The consumer court said that it is wrong to take any money from any consumer for a paper bag and it is duty of the store to keep the bags free because the consumer has bought them from them. Therefore, the Consumer Forum has imposed a fine of Rs 9,000 for doing this work on BATA.
Bata India Limited has been told to pay Rs 9,000 to a consumer for deficiency in services. Chandigarh consumer forum has slammed Bata for asking the customer to pay Rs 3 for a paper bag. In his complaint, Chandigarh resident Dinesh Prasad Raturi, told the consumer forum that Bata store charged him Rs 402 which also included charges for the paper bag. Raturi told the forum that by charging him for the bag, Bata was also endorsing its brand on the bag which was not justified. The forum directed Bata to refund the cost of the bag and litigation charges, Rs 1000. Besides asking Bata to pay Rs 3000 as compensation to the customer, forum also directed Bata to deposit Rs 5,000 in the legal aid account.
