“Identifying the Benefits of Devotional Bible Reading” is the third of a three-part panel discussion that focuses attention on Devotional Bible Reading. When a dentist tells to brush and floss your teeth, there are reasons provided as to why such a practice is beneficial to your gums. When a doctor says there is a need to lose some weight, there are usually reasons given like preventing high blood pressure or diabetes. Naturally with every pastor's prompting to read the Bible, there are usually benefits. What are the benefits that come from devotional Bible reading?
The panel with Pastor Larry McCall (Christ Covenant Church), Dr. Christy Hill (Grace College and Seminary) and Pastor Timothy D. Sprankle (Leesburg Grace Brethren Church) moderated by Dr. Herbert W. Bateman IV (President of CCBS) addresses the reasons and benefits that comes to those who are able to read their Bibles on a daily basis.
They first note that daily Bible reading helps form a follower of Jesus as he or she realizes that they are part of God’s larger story. They then discuss what it means to “grow spiritually” and exemplifies what spiritual growth looks like in real life. Finally, they share the strategies they’ve adopted to help give attention to God’s voice during their devotional reading of the Bible.
