Unity in Diversity : Quality Education for All
To School Director…. School Principal… To The Guest of Honor.. Teachers… Parents and Graduating Students, a pleasant good afternoon to all of you.
First, I want to thank Elite International School for guiding our children to complete their grade 6 curriculum. Thank you, Teachers, for looking after our children as their second parents while they are here in school.
Students, it was around 30 years ago when I was at the exact position as you are, a grade 6 graduating student seating in the chair eagerly waiting when will the speeches be completed. I graduated in “Mababang Paaralan ng Taal Central School” a public school in our town in Taal Batangas. At that time, computers, iPad and even high tech cellphones are not yet commercially available, We only resort in playing “piko”, “chato”, “agawan base”, “luksong baboy/baka” etc.. Which I believe some of the parents here might be able to relate to what I am saying.
It was that time when our attention is not divided between playing Fortnite, Mine Craft, CS Go, Other online gaming games and studying our lessons. Facebook, Instagram and other social media platform as well as Internet was not even accessible on that time. Just imagine how our life is during that time.
But did you know? That I really enjoyed my youth ages, I remembered playing in the street with my friends and I learn to interact with other people by playing “Pinoy Teks Card” (which shows different movies), Playing Marbles and more. Through this experience I learned to openly discuss things and interact with my friends/playmates.
Students, Our age might be different, but there are things that we are in common, We are always being reminded by our parents to complete our studies and study hard. It is because that is the one thing that our parents can give to us, a Quality Education.
As a parent we only want what is best for our children. It is the reason why you students were enrolled in Elite International School by your parents and choose to retain you in Saudi Arabia amid the high levy payment to the government of Saudi Arabia and not to mention the increasing cost of living in this country. It might be hard for you students to understand these things but I salute my co-parents who have decided to stay here in Saudi Arabia despite the increase that I have mentioned. Maybe some of you will be departing Saudi Arabia, due to the reasons that levy is keep on increasing. But I pray that it will not happen as it is designed by God that families stay together. The education and love that a parent can show and give to his/her children while they are together cannot be replaced by any material things. I believe, we parents plays a major role in giving a High Quality Education to our children.
A Quality education is not only taught in the school, we parents have a big role in teaching our children right conduct and letting them know that we love them. A Love that they will also impart to their future family and friends. A love which does not only mean to buy new gadget, eat in fancy restaurants but having a quality time with each member of the family. A time that we cannot give if we are far apart from each other.
To the students, remember the sacrifices of your parents to complete the whole school year (looking for tuition fees, buying uniforms, buying books and buying projects even late at night. )
And for us parents we need to remember that our children are not “US”, they have their own personality & Identity and they have their own wants, we just need to know how to bridge the communication gap with our children.
Each of us might be different, parents, teachers, and students, We might belong to different age bracket, we might have different work , but if we help together in instilling good values to these students, time will come that we will be able to raise future leaders of the society. Let us set an example to our children, To the students just a reminder that Parents needs to be respected, and to the Parents Our Children need to be loved.
To the achievers, I hope and pray that you live in harmony with one another. Do not be proud but be willing to associate with people of low position. Do not be conceited. Honors Achievements are just a piece of metals and papers, what is important is that you always assume that others are better than you.
As the saying goes, Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit, but in humility consider others better than yourselves. Thank You and God Bless You all.
