First of all, we should remember the general rule we discussed last time : singular subjects take singular verbs ; plural subjects take plural verbs.
Fortunately, we finished the first episode last week, and we demonstrated how to deal with singular subjects.
Today, we are going to explain how to deal with plural subjects showing two main cases.
At first , we should know that most of plural nouns end in s/es such as toys, boys, teachers, boxes, loaves, stories, etc ... . Nevertheless , not all plural nouns end in s/ es ; some plural nouns are irregular such as children, women, men , geese, teeth, feet, mice,and so on. In either case, we should use plural verbs whether the plural noun ends in s/es, regular, or doesn't end in s/es , irregular noun.
For example:
My mates always make trouble in the very end of the scholastic year.
Mates= Make not makes since the subject is plural, so we should use a plural verb" make" to make an agreement between the subject and the verb.
Another example:
Those geese are really cute.
Geese= plural noun
This irregular plural noun should take the plural verb "are" not is , was, or has..
Also, there are plural indefinite pronouns that must take plural verbs such as many, several, a lot/ all+ plural countable nouns.
Example:
Many "students" (are) doing projects these days.
Example:
A lot of people still believe in superstitions.
People = believe not believes....
Eventually, the lesson is like a piece of cake if you understand the general rule and know the exceptions that you may come across when you do several exercises .
Take into consideration that you can master anything you want if you arm yourself with passion, determination, unstoppable practice, positivity, and optimism.
