About Islamic Republic of Iran Army:
The Islamic Republic of Iran Army (Persian: ارتش جمهوری اسلامی ایران), acronymed AJA (Persian: آجا), simply known as the Iranian Army or Artesh (Persian: ارتش, romanized: Arteš), is the "conventional military of Iran" and part of Armed Forces of the Islamic Republic of Iran. The army is tasked to protect the territorial integrity of the Iranian state from external and internal threats and to project power. Artesh has its own Joint Staff which coordinates its four separate service branches: Ground Forces, Air Force, Navy and the newly established Air Defense Force. Iranian army fought two major invasions in modern era. In the first time, 1941 invasion by Soviet and British forces during World War II resulted to decisive allied victory, deposition of Iran's Shah and five years of occupation.
ارتش جمهوری اسلامی ایران که به‌اختصار آجا نیز نامیده می‌شود، پیکرهٔ اصلی نیروهای مسلح ایران را تشکیل می‌دهد.[۲] وظیفهٔ اصلی ارتش «پاسداری از استقلال و تمامیت ارضی و نظام جمهوری اسلامی کشور» است و فرماندهی آن را امیر سرلشکر سید عبدالرحیم موسوی برعهده دارد.[۹]
ارتش ایران، به‌همراه سپاه پاسداران انقلاب اسلامی و نیروی انتظامی جمهوری اسلامی ایران، نیروهای مسلح ایران را تشکیل می‌دهند. ارتش ایران خود شامل چهار نیروی زمینی، هوایی، دریایی و پدافند هوایی است.
اکنون فرماندهی کل ارتش ایران را سرلشکر سید عبدالرحیم موسوی به عهده دارد که پس از سرلشکر سید عطاءالله صالحی از جانب فرماندهی کل قوا به‌این سِمت منصوب شده‌است.
