Even though there were efforts in the recent past to amend the educational curricula to add lessons of tolerance, the state remains hostile towards the idea of critical thinking
Students who engage in activism on campus are considered a threat by the administrations .This non-acceptance of alternative views explains why our educational institutions are not producing individuals who can think logically.
Therefore, students of prestigious universities getting involved in extremist activities, as has been witnessed in the past few years, should not come as a surprise.
To reform the education system, objective analysis and critical evaluation of course content is needed. The growing intolerance and extremism in the society can be countered through an inclusive curriculam free of religious, ethnic or racial bias
Lack of critical thinking is one of the several flaws of Pakistan’s education system. Textbooks promote racial hatred on the basis of religion. That is why students from prestigious universities are joining extremist groups. We need inclusive curriculam and educational reforms to tackle the problem.
