Europe-wide extreme heatwave has people, animals trying to keep cool Europe is experiencing a major heatwave with residents, tourists and even animals trying to beat the heat in various ways. Meteorologists say the heatwave is due to hot air blowing into Europe from North Africa.

In France, the national weather agency Meteo France predicted the hot weather could produce temperatures of up to 40 degrees Celsius (104 F) across the country just as the summer tourist season shifts into high gear.

Tuesday's temperature in the Berlin, Germany showed 34 degrees Celsius (93.2 F), but authorities have warned it could reach 40 degrees Celsius (104 F) in the coming days.

In the Czech Republic, the Czech Hydrometeorological Institute issued a warning about unusually high temperatures that should hit the capital of Prague and the rest of the country on Tuesday and Wednesday. While the highest temperatures were expected to reach 34 Celsius (93 F) on Tuesday, it might soar to 37 Celsius (99 F) on Wednesday.
