A United Nations panel voiced their concerns about reported escalating violence and worsening humanitarian conditions in the Syrian city of Idlib, during a conference on Friday in Geneva.

"Humanitarians are deeply alarmed by the ongoing hostilities in north-western Syria and the near daily reports of civilians and civilian infrastructure coming under attack including by airstrikes, artillery shelling and barrel bombs," said Jens Laerke, a spokesperson for the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA).

He went on to explain that doctors are leaving in fear of their facilities being hit.

"Patients are not going to those hospitals, understandably," he said.

Idlib, the last opposition-held stronghold in Syria, is home to an estimated three million people including a million civilians, according to UN estimates.
