An Improbable Romance | Behind the Scenes |

An Improbable Romance | Behind the Scenes | An Improbable Romance was shot mostly on a Nikon D5500, with a couple shots from an iPhone 7. The entire film was recorded on a Rode VideoMic. Below is a complete list of equipment that was used:

-Nikon D5500 with Kit 18-55mm lens and fixed 50mm lens
-Rode VideoMic with Rode Boompole
-Manfrotto Tripod
-Neewer Fluid Tripod Head
-Neewer CN-216 (X2)
-Neewer 100cm Slider

The interior shots were filmed at Matthew’s house, while the outdoor shots were filmed at various local parks in the area.

This was Avril’s first time acting. She has never taken an acting class or course before and has never acted in front of a camera before.

The writer and director, Matthew Carew, recently graduated high school and is studying at Capilano University for the Motion Picture Arts Program starting in September 2019. Although only 18, Matthew has amassed a variety of awards for his contributions to the artistic community. These include multiple awards from local film festivals, and multiple publications of his written work in both local and national publications. Matthew wrote An Improbable Romance with the intention of starring in it himself, but later decided that Nate would play the role better. Matthew wrote, directed, shot, and edited the entire film and behind the scenes video.

An Improbable Romance was edited with Adobe Premiere Pro on a MacBook Pro. The voiceover was recorded on the internal microphone of a MacBook Pro.

This film had a budget of approximately $5. The only money spent on this production was the diary that is used by Avril. All actors and crew volunteered their time.

We would like to thank Martin Novotny for letting us borrow some of the equipment from his classroom.
