TEXT FROM THE GOSPEL AND HOMILY
The Lord be with you. And with your spirit.

A proclamation of the Holy Gospel according to Saint Luke glory to you o Lord.

Jesus was praying in a certain place and when he had finished one of his disciples said to him, “Lord teach us to pray as John taught his disciples." He said to them, "When you pray, say: Father, hallowed be your name, your kingdom come. Give us each day our daily bread and forgive us our sins for we ourselves forgive everyone in debt to us, and do not subject us to the final test." And he said to them, "Suppose one of you has a friend to whom he goes at midnight and says, 'Friend, lend me three loaves of bread, for a friend of mine has arrived at my house from a journey and I have nothing to offer him,' and he says in reply from within, 'Do not bother me; the door has already been locked and my children and I are already in bed. I cannot get up to give you anything.' I tell you, if he does not get up to give the visitor the loaves because of their friendship, he will get us to give him whatever he needs because of his persistence. " And I tell you, ask and you will receive; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks, receives; and the one who seeks, finds; and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened. What father among you would hand his son a snake when he asks for a fish? Or hand him a scorpion when he asks for an egg? If you then, who are wicked, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will the father in heaven give the holy spirit to those who ask him?"

The Gospel of the Lord. Praise to you Lord Jesus Christ.

For whoever asks, receives; whoever seeks, finds; whoever knocks, is admitted. These words that come to us from today's scripture as given to us by St. Luke are very interesting. Because these words could easily be used for us in the situations in which we live in our modern world today. There's so much going on in our world in our parishes, in our families in our homes. There are so many people who often times just won't ask. And sometimes, when we do we ask for things for ourselves and we often times I guess ask why things aren't better. It seems as if we aren't asking the right question though. And that is, "Is there anything that I can do to make this situation better?" Do we look hard enough to find the solutions to our problems or do we just accept the things that come our way, and think that someone else is supposed to fix it? If we look hard enough, we find the solution together. And we can easily make each and every situation in which we are a better one. Are we sure that we are making ourselves truly inviting people, whether it be in our parishes, our homes, whether it be in our neighborhoods. That's what it's all about. Make sure that you do what you can to be as inviting as possible. For that's what Jesus asks of the community may the gospel of today truly help us to make a change in our lives and together within our church. Amen.
