After UFC 241 and his win over Anthony Pettis, Nate Diaz's path to stardom is the clearest evidence that your employer - even in what would normally be considered good working conditions - does not necessarily understand your worth or how to maximize your potential. That responsibility may ultimately fall upon you. You must have self belief. You must know your worth. You must accept most people, even in good faith, are bad at identifying talent. Diaz is living proof that letting others define your potential will be a self-fulfilling prophecy if you never take your worth seriously, but there's nothing inevitable about it. You won't succeed in an environment where those with say over your future do not recognize your ability. Whatever you do in this life, never relent to the bigotry of their low expectations.
