He also shares common mistakes that many players make, and shows you how to correct them right away.
Here’s an overview of Jeff’s breakdown for the five concepts that you should focus on, before even hitting the ball:
1. Grip
Use a continental grip. This will allow you to turn your shoulders better, get into a solid trophy
position, and hit up & over the ball to get awesome topspin.
2. Stance
For a platform stance, get the toe of your back foot lined up with the heel of your front foot.
This will help you to initially turn on the first move, and get more coil with your serve.
3. Start
You either need to get all the weight on the back foot or all the weight forward at the
beginning of the motion. It’s really important to know how to shift your weight from forward
to back, or vice versa.
4. First Move
Focus on turning your hips and shoulders right from the start, unless you experience any type
of physical limitation that does not allow you to do so.
5. Relaxation
Avoid gripping or squeezing the racquet too tight, and aim to get very little tension. Relax your
hitting arm and hand.
