In this video I reveal the top mistakes I see beginner riders make out in the twisties/canyons/taking corners. First thing is riders having the middle of their foot on the footpeg vs their tippy toes. Because of this, they're very likely to have contact with their foot to the ground mid-corner, which can cause injury and/or an accident. Next, riders don't look far enough up the road. They're only focused on what's directly in front of them instead of looking up as far as you can see. Riders also get way too close to the yellow line when taking corners, which adds risk due to being too close to oncoming traffic. Next, riders first do not understand nor do they know how to counter steer properly for turns. Many riders believe the myth that you must "press the handlebars down" to turn. This is 100% incorrect, pressing down does absolutely nothing. Riders also rely too much on engine braking vs. using their brakes. A lot of riders never touch their brakes due to them downshifting before each turn. Last, rider try too hard to keep up with quicker more experienced riders and often get themselves into trouble. Riders have too much of an ego or too much to try to prove and often crash because of this. Ride your own ride and don't let anyone peer pressure you or get caught into the trap of trying to keep up. Of course, many riders have the exhaust or "cool" lights or carbon fiber parts on their bike but are wearing jeans and tennis shoes. Take higher level courses, wear full gear at all times, and make time to practice.
