The ship, a vehicles carrier called the Golden Ray, had just left port in Brunswick, Georgia when it was seen listing to its port side while making a starboard turn. Coast Guard and other authorities rescued 20 of the vessel's 24 crew members, but had to stop the rescue operation due to a fire and smoke that was seen on board. Four crew members are still missing.
