Please join us to explore how rapid advances in technology innovation – including natural language processing, AI, and big data analytics – can bridge the gap when there is no health worker and increase the effectiveness of the existing health workforce to accelerate the possibility of quality universal community-based care.
The world population has swelled to 7.6 billion people, with the elderly population set to almost double by 2050. The health challenges of the 21st century have become increasingly complex and largely manmade: the rise of non-communicable diseases, climate change, conflict and forced migration, global pandemics. They won’t be solved in formal health facilities, academic centers or by peering down a microscope – good health starts in our homes and communities.
Community-based primary care, with strong linkages to the formal system, should anchor any well-functioning health system, yet half of the world still lacks access to essential health services. With an estimated deficit of 9 million nurses and midwives globally, and 2 million community health workers in Africa alone, plus a lack of training, tools, and other support for those already actively serving at the front lines, one thing is clear:
To profoundly change the trajectory of health for humanity, we need to start thinking differently about how health care is delivered.
