Introducing a new cut: The Side Bender

Introducing a new cut: The Side Bender I made this cut up about a year ago and have found it to be very effective at swinging vertical (and near vertical )limbs without a rope. Generally this will work better than a side notch, however there are limitations to the cut. Please experiment in no risk scenarios before using it when valuables are at risk. I AM looking forward to hearing feedback from the veteran climbers and bucket ops, especially after you've tried this cut and see how it functions. I really haven't experimented with it as much as I wold have liked, but wanted to get out something new. The first limb I used this on was a long horizontal tulip limb.

Tulips simply will not move sideways with a side notch and back cut. The hinge just fails and the limb drops straight down. The side bender worked really well an gave more than enough side movement to avoid the bush it was over. That made a believer out of me. I;ll get some more video shot of examples when I get a chance. Everyone stay safe out there and enjoy labor day weekend.
