Mala Beads 101: What Are Malas Really For? Which Type Should You Wear? You’ve probably been seeing a lot of malas around yoga studios, at festivals, etc...but what are they REALLY for? Japamalas have been used in eastern tradition for meditation and chanting practice for at least 7,000+ years. They are an age-old part of the yogic tradition. Traditionally, malas should have 108 beads plus guru bead. Malas are used as Prayer beads, for spiritual healing, for divine connection, for protection, or even to bring out certain qualities of the wearer.
Malas have been a deep spiritual practice of Hindus and Buddhists for generations. They deserve a complete understanding, respect and intention. Each stone, crystal, seed has a purpose and power behind it. Make sure to do your research and find whats right for you.
