DRUSKININKAI – THE COOLEST VACATION VILLAGE IN LITHUANIA THAT YOU’VE NEVER HEARD OF

DRUSKININKAI – THE COOLEST VACATION VILLAGE IN LITHUANIA THAT YOU’VE NEVER HEARD OF Start memorizing the name: Druskininkai, the family oriented vacation village in southern Lithuania that until now has remained a well-kept secret among the people of the Baltics.

Povilas Gorelčenkas – the Tourist Center Manager: Druskininkai is an all year resort for the whole family. You can some here in the summer, in the winter, in the spring, in the autumn, the whole family, with children, parents, grandparents… we have many things to do here, for anyone, at any time.”

Here are our top 10 recommendations for a vacation at Druskininkai and its surroundings:

Aqua Park – a huge, amazing roofed water park with extreme slides for the very courageous, wave pools with riding tires, and a magical kingdom for children.

Margarita Micevičienė – De Lita Hotel Sales Manager – “Druskininkai Aqua Park is the biggest water park in the Baltic states where you can find swimming pool areas, and sauna areas, where you can use 20 different saunas, and every half an hour you will get treatment and wellness procedures for free.”

The Rope Park – immediately opposite the water park there is a varied and challenging rope park with different levels of difficulty at scary and even scarier heights. The courageous who climb all the way to the top will get to slide down the omega to the other side of the wide river, and children too will find different levels of tests of courage around the park.

The Snow Arena – the Lithuanians do not have tall mountains, so they decided to create a roofed ski resort, open all days of the year, with steep skiing slopes, a skiing school, ski lifts, cafes and restaurants, all at a temperature of minus five degrees all year round.

A walk through the picturesque village of Druskininkai – colorful houses, churches, a pedestrian street, a musical water fountain, a wellspring that facilitates healthy facial skin, healthy salt water for drinking, walking and bicycle riding tracks by lakes, rivers, and green woods.

The Antanas Cesnulis Woodworking Park - a 7-minute drive from Druskininkai, takes you to a magical forest filled with varied sizes of wood statues all made by the skilled hands of artist Antanas Cesnulis. Walking through the park, the statues will come alive for you, dancing and singing, and you may even get to meet the artist Antanas in the flesh.

Antanas Cesnulis, woodworking artist – “the park was established in 1998, upon the launch of the wind turbine, when I was 50 years old and I made all the statues you see here, myself, over the course of 21 years.”

The Merkine Pyramid – at the heart of the woods, a 20-minute drive from Druskininkai, a giant glass dome has been built, serving as a place of prayer, thought and positive energy. On site you will receive detailed instruction to lead you on the journey for a powerful sense of peace.

The Merkine Observation Tower - not far from there, near the village of Merkine, a 26-meter observation tower has been constructed, with a 360 degrees overview of the Nemunas River and the green expanses of southern Lithuania.

Druskininkai is an hour and a half drive from the two largest cities of Lithuania, and we recommend incorporating a visit to these cities during the vacation.

The Old City of Vilnius – most international flights to Lithuania land in the capital city of Vilnius, it is recommended to spend a few hours on a walking tour of the historical streets of the Old City of Vilnius, amongst historical buildings, squares and cathedrals that tell the story of the Lithuanian capital.

The Trakai Castle – the impressive Trakai castle is located at the center of a lake not far from Vilnius. You will get a sense of the Middle Ages there, and can also set out on a romantic boat ride around the castle.

Kaunas – the second largest city in Lithuania is an hour’s ride from Vilnius. Kaunas boasts a long pedestrian street, three kilometers long, which begins at the Kaunas castle and City Hall.

Where to sleep in Druskininkai?

Margarita Micevičienė – De Lita Hotel Sales Manager – “Druskininkai has a lot of sanatoriums and hotels and guest houses. The sanatoriums provide wellness procedures, accommodations, catering and packages. In De Lita hotel, 3 stars hotel, near the city center of Druskininkai and also near the wellness park. Our hotel has 39 rooms, double, family and lux type rooms, so it’s a very nice place for families and couples.”

To summarize, Druskininkai is the southern gateway to the beautiful Baltic States, and is the perfect vacation destination throughout the year. At present, flights to Lithuania are cheap, and its hotels remain within the reasonable price range, so this is the perfect opportunity for you to discover the place before everyone, and before prices rise.
