In the "Pilipinas Padayon PAF Up-Up" forum at Villamor Air Base, Pasay City, PAF commander Lt. Gen. Rozzano Briguez said he would meet with PAF rating generals to discuss the MRF before presenting it to these senior officials.
"That (the selection and acquisition of MRF) will be the biggest decision to be made by PAF because of our performance in maintaining airspace (depending on this acquisition)," he said in the Philippines.
The MRF is part of the Horizon Two Armed Forces of the Philippine Modernization Program which is scheduled for 2018 to 2023 and aims to obtain more equipment for external defense.
Briguez added that 12 various MRFs were being evaluated by PAF and said each aircraft to be selected must be able to integrate with the existing radar system which has a range of around 250 nautical miles.
After this MRF is obtained, PAF, with the help of this radar system, can be used to determine whether airplanes flying in Philippine airspace are friendly or unfriendly.
The proposed MRF is expected to add a fleet of 12 South Korean-made FA-50PH 1.5 jet aircraft obtained from 2015 to 2017 by PAF as the first supersonic aircraft after deactivating the Northrop F-5 "Tiger" fighter jet. in 2005.
