Using strips of paper the idea of a denominator in a fraction is introduced. A piece of paper is folded first in half prouding two equal parts which helps define the denominator as 2. The process is repeated for the same size strip being folded into four equal parts and eventually into three equal parts. The sizes of the unit fractions are also compared side by side. This is also an excellent way to demonstrate how remote online tutoring can work, with tutor and student in a completely different part of the world.
