How teachers manage classrooms and the roles they enact in class varies according to their personal preference, beliefs and teaching context. Although they may be more comfortable with one way of teaching, they are likely to use more than one role, switching between them during the lesson as they require. Additionally, how teaching is contextualized will also affect the role teachers assume in the classroom. And since the classroom can be considered a social space, the teachers are supposed to be able to balance between the social and pedagogic purposes within their classroom behaviour.
