'How to Relate to the Universe' - Handcut Paper Collage (Spring 2019)

'How to Relate to the Universe' - Handcut Paper Collage (Spring 2019) “The process with art is non-cerebral,” I once wrote to a friend. She was asking whether her interpretation of a piece was the correct one. “The work,” I said, “is not trying to convey in any linear sense anything in particular, so much as to evoke something archetypal that is felt and known, without knowing or sensing exactly why it is felt or known.”

When I catch myself referring to the mind’s contents or beliefs to initiate or complete a piece, it is a signal that the work has drifted off course, and a reminder to gently return to a patient Trust in the Wisdom of The Muse, who will reveal all once again in her own Timing. The images that emerge from the process come straight from the intuitive Heart of the Great Unknown; expressions of the prismatic forms and colors of the Muse, who is Herself without form, distinctions or attributes. “The seat of the soul” wrote mythology professor Joseph Campbell, “is where the inner world and the outer world meet.” It is from this very Seat that the inspiration for the image abides.

Description of Artwork
Images are discovered, selected, cut with an X-acto blade, and then arranged into original, evocative compositions. Once arrayed, compositions are photographed, developed, and offered as limited edition prints. Select originals are also glued up into 100% Original Compositions.
