Lightning Motorcycles has revealed its new Strike electric superbike. The motorcycle promises to offer “premium design, performance and technology for an ultra-competitive price” that starts at $12,998 (Rs 9 lakh). However, if you were to get the top-spec Carbon edition, the price would shoot up to $19,998 (Rs 13.8 lakh). The booking or reservation amount on the company’s website is set at $500 (Rs 34,617) for the standard model and $10,000 (Rs 6.92 lakh) for the Carbon edition. While speaking about the styling, the company has said that the Strike’s design is “intended to blend elements of track-ready performance and daily rideability and comfort along with aerodynamic efficiency.” In layman’s terms: it is a sharp-looking, fully faired electric bike with a sporty riding position. The company also claims that the Strike is by far the most aerodynamically efficient electric motorcycle on the market today.Powering the Strike is a liquid-cooled AC induction motor capable of producing 90hp and 244Nm of torque on the standard version. The Carbon edition, meanwhile, makes 120hp and 244Nm of torque. The claimed top speed is 217kph on the standard Strike, and 241kph on the Carbon.Interestingly, the e-bike is available with three different battery sizes – 10kWh, 15kWh and 20kWh. Lightning claims that the 10kWh battery has a claimed range of around 113-161km. The slightly larger 15kWh pack has a claimed range of 169-241km and the largest 20kWh battery has a claimed range of 241-322km. While a standard 110V household outlet can charge the Strike overnight, an optional DC fast charger can charge 160km of range in around 20min.The top-spec Carbon edition features many extras over the standard model. Among these is the carbon-fibre bodywork. The Carbon edition also gets front and rear Öhlins suspension, Brembo brakes and a race-spec instrument cluster that features a lap timer and GPS-based data logging.
