Non-Cabinet minister Ajith P Perera submitted a written explanation with regard to the show-cause notice issued to him by the UNP.
The explanation was handed over to UNP Administration Director CD
Medagedara this morning.
The minister has given explanations to the allegations made against him
including violating party rules and criticizing the leadership.
Show cause has been sent to non-cabinet minister Sujeeva Senasinghe as
well but he has not responded yet.
Meanwhile, signatures are collected from the UNP MPs requesting the
party leadership to nominate Sajith Premadasa as the presidential
candidate today as well.
It is reported that 51 MPs have already signed in the letter.
Earlier, over 50 UNP MPs wrote to the leadership asking to hold the central
working committee meeting and the parliamentary group at the same
time.
In addition, a meeting between Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe and
his deputy Sajith Premadasa is scheduled for tomorrow.
This meeting was scheduled for last Sunday but it was postponed later.
